ZAMBOANGA CITY — A former security guard and a policeman were injured when a fragmentation grenade exploded Tuesday morning in a village here. Police Superintendent Hajiri Langgal, police station 6 commander, identified the victims as Antonio dela Cruz, a former security guard, and SPO1 Osbert Fernando. Langgal said the incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. at the guard house of Casa Saavedra Subdivision along Crispin Atilano Extension in Barangay Tetuan. Langgal said SPO1 Fernando, who is serving as a security aide of the former judge, pacified the suspect and tried to retrieve the fragmentation grenade from Dela Cruz. The grenade exploded and severed the right hand of Dela Cruz while Fernando sustained injuries on his leg.
