A South Australian man who kidnapped and raped a European backpacker in a pig shed on his rural property has been jailed for at least 12 years and six months. "You took her mobile phone and disposed of it, and left her alone in that shed in the middle of nowhere," she said. "It is impossible to understand how alone and devastated she must have felt as you humiliated and degraded her in a foreign country." Judge Davison said the woman felt powerless and miserable, but it was her resourceful thinking that contributed to Bristow's eventual decision to release her in Murray Bridge the following day. Bristow showed no emotion as he was sentenced to 18 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 12 years and six months.
