"The ministry defines a school as having a low student population if it has less than 150 students. He said of the 2,996 schools with less than 150 students, 2,058 were national schools, 578 were Chinese national primary schools and 360 were Tamil national primary schools. "This has already been done for three schools located in Jalan Pasar in Kuala Lumpur which were merged due to low student population," he said. Mahdzir added that Sabah and Sarawak faced low school population problems due to the remote location of the schools, adding that 27 schools in Sibuti have less than 150 students due to this. He also said that it is a requirement that dormitories are built for schools with low student populations that merged, particularly in the remote areas.
