$174M bus barn opens in northeast Calgary

City of Calgary officials cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new $174-million bus storage facility — one that will be used to fuel and maintain its growing fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered buses. The 44,300-sq.-ft. Stoney Transit Facility is the largest such complex in North America. Gondek said converting to compressed natural gas will save the city "$10,000 per year, per bus." (Mike Symington/CBC)Doug Morgan, director of Calgary Transit, says the city has ordered 40 of the compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and has 20 on site. "Every bus we buy that's 40-feet long will now be natural gas," he said.
