17-year-old Amherstburg driver charged with stunt driving

A 17-year-old Amherstburg resident has been charged with stunt driving after he was caught speeding 71 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 401. OPP officers sopped a Jeep SUV around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday after clocking the driver at excessive speeds while heading west near the Lakeshore and Tilbury border. Officers say the driver was going 171 km/h. The vehicle has been seized for seven days and the 17-year-old's driver' license has been suspended for seven days, which is required under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. OPP say after the influx of recent deaths and serious injuries from car accidents it wants to remind anyone driving to slow down and pay attention to the road.
