The labourers were actively working on the Samruddhi Expressway when the crane toppled onto large concrete slabs. The National Disaster Response Force (NRDF) confirmed the recovery of 17 bodies and transported three injured recovered from the rubble to the hospital. In 2016, the collapse of a flyover onto a busy street in Kolkata killed at least 26 people.
