Rescue operation underway, fears death toll might rise furtherAt least 16 people were killed and over 50 injured when two intercity trains collided head-on in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. “Chittagong-bound Udayan Express from Sylhet and Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita collided near Mondobhag Railway Station around 3:30am on Tuesday,” Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Hayat-ud-Dowla Khan told Dhaka Tribune. "Rescue operation is underway, and we have opened a control room to facilitate the operation." Brahmanbaria Fire Service and the Civil Defense control room duty officer Barkatullah said the death toll may rise as the rescue operation progresses. Meanwhile, three separate probe committees -- from Railways Ministry, Bangladesh Railway and Brahmanbaria district administration -- have been formed to investigate the mishap, Railways Ministry Secretary Mofazzal Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.
