EXACTLY 148 schools in eight divisions in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Region are being utilized as evacuation centers, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Wednesday. Some 7,187 families or 34,199 individuals have been temporarily house in the 148 schools since Sunday after the Taal Volcano eruption. DepEd said of the 148 schools, 132 were in the province of Batangas, including those in the cities of Batangas, Lipa and Tanauan. The Education department said 1,829,249 students in 2,113 schools in Calabarzon were affected due to class suspension. Meanwhile, Sen. Francis Pangilinan has called on the DepEd to install makeshift classrooms in evacuation centers.
