100 countries pledge to support Kenya in the war on ivory trade, says Wakhungu

Kenya’s bid to stop ivory trade gained momentum on Wednesday after more than 100 countries pledged to support the move. Kenya will in September petition CITES to have a total ban on ivory trade. Environment CS Judi Wakhungu appealed to the delegates of the UN Environment Assembly to support the country in fighting ivory trade. Wakhungu said there is need for more collaboration between source countries, transit points as well as the markets, if poaching is to be eliminated. The campaign seeks to create collaboration, policy implementation and grassroots participation to educate communities on source and destination countries of the illegal trade.
