Phormium ‘Green Dwarf’ is another favourite that does what it says on the tin: fresh green leaves that don’t get diseased and a useful compact size. Phormium 'Surfer' is like this – the brown edges to the green leaves emphasise the Dr Seuss-like quality of the plant. The plentiful blooms come from its mountain flax (Phormium cookianum) heritage. This is one of the hardiest coloured flaxes and its broad leaves have an elegant arching habit. Phormium ‘Sundowner’ Is one of the larger and older flax varieties out thEre – it grows up to about 1.8m tall – and is still one of the best pinks.
