At least 10,000 Turkana residents have been displaced by flooding following heavy rains. On Friday night, River Kawalase burst its banks, affecting transport on roads such as Lodwar-Kitale-South Sudan. Guests from South Sudan who attended the Tobong’ ulore Cultural Festival were left stranded after River Karach in Kakuma also burst its banks. "More than 10,000 people living in Soweto, Napetet, Kawalase, Nabute and Nakwalele and Loitaktok villages have been displaced and their houses destroyed," Lokioto said. James Ejore, a pastoralist who lives at Soweto said he lost about 12 goats in the floods.
