Confirming the matter on Friday, Sharsha upazila Fisheries Officer Abul Hasan said the Commerce Ministry permitted 13 ilish exporters to export 1,875 tons of ilish to India by October 10. With this, a total of 1,875 tons of ilish have been exported to India ahead of Durga Puja, he added. In 2019, the government permitted the export of 500 tons of ilish on the eve of the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community. Bangladesh accounts for around 75% of the world's ilish production.
