(Update) It is akin to approving adultery, says Perak Mufti

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision to allow Muslim children born out of wedlock to use their biological father's name as registered surname is akin to validating adultery, said a mufti today. Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria said that the view was against the consensus of ulama. This is heading towards making adultery halal (permissible in Islam)," he said at the opening of Residensi Rah in Kampung Baru, here today. The department however said that it would continue using the current system of registering Muslim children born out of wedlock. On groups that claimed that NRD was contemptuous of the court’s decision Harussani said the constitution clearly states that Islam is the religion of the federation.
