These were some of the shocking discoveries at two famous nasi kandar restaurants here, made during a joint-operation between the state Health Department and the Penang Island City Council this morning. The two restaurants are the 70-year-old Line Clear Restaurant and 28-year-old Yasmeen Nasi Kandar Restaurant at Jalan Penang here. The unhygienic items were noted by enforcement personnel in the storerooms of the establishments, located just next to the kitchens. The restaurants were later ordered to close for two weeks, beginning today. "What we found was most unhygienic and can affect the health of those consuming the food at the two outlets," Ong said after the joint raids.
