He was a former member of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML Red Flag) group, according to the local police. Saidur Rahman, the chief of Santhia Police Station, says the incident took place in the Ebtedayee Madrasah area of Rauti village around 9pm on Sunday. The deceased was identified with a single name as Bakul, 45, the son Rawshan Ali, a resident of the Upazila’s Dhulauri Union. According to locals and police personnel, Bakul had renounced his extremist ties and surrendered to the authorities.
