‘Ulysses’ floods shut down Metro Manila – The Manila Times

Typhoon “Ulysses” (international name: “Vamco”) whipped up winds of up to 155 kilometers per hour as it swept across Luzon after making landfall overnight. Heavy rain effectively shut down Metro Manila and surrounding areas. Santos said the flooding caused by Ulysses brought back memories of the devastating Typhoon “Ondoy” that hit in 2009 and claimed hundreds of lives. Philippine Red Cross personnel used boats to rescue people stranded in their homes in Marikina City, where the water in some streets was up to shoulder height. The flooding was most severe in Marikina, and the towns of Montalban, San Mateo, and Cainta in Rizal, Año said.
