“Christmas music is likely to irritate people if it’s played too loudly and too early. How has the once-ridiculed “Last Christmas” managed to age like an exquisite bottle of Nebbiolo while “White Christmas” has grown sour and mouldy? What we need this Christmas, and every Christmas, is a blacklist that can be modified each year. And we don’t need a silent night. But to prevent a health crisis, we may need to gift-wrap the bad songs and send them to the undecorated dumpster of oblivion.
