(File photo of Supreme Court) | Photo Credit: Rajeev Bhattmore-inSolicitor General Ranjit Kumar on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the judiciary had no authority to inquire into the proceedings of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, and that the Speaker is not answerable to the Supreme Court on allegations of ‘irregularity’ in the conduct of the House. A Bench led by Justice Dipak Misra agreed to hear Mr. Kumar in detail on August 9. The court wanted assistance on the question of conducting a trust vote in the State Assembly through a secret ballot. The writ petition filed under Article 32 through Supreme Court advocate Sunil Fernandes sought the Supreme Court to direct the Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal to conduct a fresh vote of confidence motion in favour of Mr. Palaniswami.
