Tasnim Ara is still so traumatised that until Sunday she could not name her newborn child, four days after giving birth to her. Hailing from Tula Toli village, one of the areas in Myanmar’s Rakhine state witnessing massive crackdown by the army, Tasnim can barely stop recounting the harrowing atrocities which left only 20 people alive. She says just about 20 people from the entire village managed to escape the carnage and cross over to Bangladesh. The journey for the then expecting mother was way too tough since she had to walk all the way to Cox’s Bazar from Tula Toli. “I was forced to starve on many occasions during the days of persecution and while on the way to Bangladesh,” Tasnim said while describing her ordeal.
