He collided with a stop bank while road workers took evasive action, but kept going. "It is a miracle that you didn't end up killing a road worker," Christchurch District Court Judge Raoul Neave told Wallace. Judge Neave told him: "If there is one lesson you need to learn from this: When you are in a hole, stop digging." "You have to take the first step," the judge told him.
