‘Kasganj not a clash but a communal attack’

more-inA fact-finding team of the All India People’s Forum (AIPF) that visited Kasganj on Monday and Tuesday has reported that several innocent persons from both communities are in jail but the “rioters” have not yet been arrested. Speaking to the media, the team said the January 26 incident at Kasganj was “not a clash but a politically-motivated communal attack on minorities”. Team waylaidActivist Kavita Krishnan, who was a part of the team, said on the second day of their visit, the team was waylaid by the police near Kasganj District Jail, detained for violating Section 144 and then escorted it out of the district. Despite the Kasganj District Jail jailer and district administration refusing to let the team meet prisoners, several family members waiting outside to meet relatives booked for rioting and jailed shared stories of how people who were not present at the time of the incident had been jailed. Judicial inquiryThe team demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident, along with judicial monitoring of the investigation.
