‘It was surreal’ — Times readers on their memories of Concorde

A select group of about five of us found ourselves in the Concorde lounge in New York the next morning. We flew Concorde to Bahrain in September 1979 and then on to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, before returning to Bahrain and taking Concorde back to Heathrow. There was a Concorde lounge and everything was done for you from the moment you stepped out of the car. Somehow my husband found out that Concorde was taking the ordinary scheduled flight to London that afternoon and we and another couple were lucky enough to get tickets for the Concorde flight for no extra cost. We lucky travellers were awarded signed certificates to prove we flew supersonic on Concorde, and a pair of socks each.
