‘I am alive and well’: The other big mistake at the Oscars was a doozy — featuring a living person in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment

When it comes to the “In Memoriam” segment during every Oscars telecast, the biggest blunder tends to be over who was unceremoniously left out. While airing the name of the late costume designer Janet Patterson, who died in October 2015, the Academy wrongly included the photo of Australian producer Jan Chapman. I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered. Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer.”RelatedPatterson was indeed nominated for four Oscars throughout her career, for The Piano, The Portrait of a Lady, Oscar and Lucinda, and Bright Star.
