The shootout occurred around 3am on Tuesday in the Upazila’s Beninagar village, said Sadar Police Station SI Kamal Hossain. The man has been identified as Abbas Sardar alias Khokon, who police say was part of an underground extremist group known as Sarbahara. A police team headed out on a raid after receiving information that a group of terrorists had gathered in the area, said SI Kamal. The terrorists fled on a boat and police found Abbas’s bullet-riddled body afterwards.”The body was taken to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Abbas dead. A police SI named Mamun and a constable were injured in the shootout and received first aid, SI Kamal said.
