MANILA, Philippines — The number of provinces to be affected by El Niño is seen to rise to 67 by the end of this month. Below normal rainfall conditions or 21 to 60 percent reduction from the average for five consecutive months or way below normal rainfall conditions for three consecutive months will be experienced in drought-affected provinces. The government’s El Niño task force had earlier said 80 provinces would be affected by El Niño in April and May. La Niña is associated with above normal rainfall conditions that may trigger floods and landslides.
