OTTAWA — Politicians, advocates and members of Canada’s Jewish community kicked off a national summit on antisemitism Wednesday with a common refrain: discussions and good intentions won’t be enough to eradicate one of the world’s most enduring forms of hate. “Antisemitism in all its forms is not a job for one summit. It’s not a job for one generation,” said Quebec Senator and former Jewish community leader Marc Gold. In Canada, religion is the second most common motive behind hate crimes, with race or ethnicity accounting for the majority of incidents. A spokesperson from Chagger’s office said all four leaders have been invited to participate “as observers” to allow community members to share their thoughts.
