Despite the fact that Nigeria’s security issues, which the security architecture, has presently structured, has been unable to battle, the clamour for state police has gone unanswered for years. On January 9, 2020, governors of the South-West geopolitical zone announced the creation of a regional security outfit called Western Nigeria Security Network, aka Amotekun, which is to protect the people living in the region. One can rightfully ask, what is the use of a regional security outfit when we have the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others? The South-West, in light of the several security issues it is currently facing, such as bandits raiding farmlands, raping and killing indigenes; and kidnappings on highways, has decided to be proactive and not reactive in tackling these security issues. Should we then wait until these issues become a full-blown crisis before the creation of a regional security outfit can be justified?
