Duterte to LGUs: Take ‘extra steps’ in protecting environmentBy The Manila TimesPRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte ordered local government units (LGUs) to step up in protecting the environment in his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday. “Take extra steps in enforcement of laws and protection of the environment,” he said. The Chief Executive cited Boracay’s rehabilitation in 2018 and called on the LGUs to follow its example. “I will shut down establishments that will continue to pollute our waters,” he said. Earlier this year, several establishments, including notable restaurants, along Roxas Boulevard, were shut down due to the bay’s rehabilitation.
