Sri Lanka’s death toll due to the coronavirus has climbed to 5,222 with this. According to the data released by the Department of Government Information, the latest victims confirmed today include 56 males and 55 females. None among the victims are aged below 30 years while 21 victims aged between 30-59 years and 90 others aged 60 and above.

Palestine eyes bilateral cooperation with SL in development projects
These views were expressed when the Representative of Sri Lanka to the State of Palestine Nawalage Bennet Cooray presented Letters of Credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine recently. Representative Cooray conveying greetings and best wishes from Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to Minister Al-Malki, expressed the commitment of Sri Lanka to further advance and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Al-Malki expressed his gratitude for the support extended and the stance of the Sri Lankan Government on the Palestinian cause and Palestinian people in all international fora. Representative Cooray stressed the solidarity that Sri Lanka shares with Palestine and its people and their right to establish an independent state. He expressed his willingness to strengthen the special relations nurtured between Sri Lanka and Palestine covering a multitude of areas.

BBC website coverage of Tokyo Olympics is accessed a record 104 million times

But just 36.4m tuned in to watch the BBC's television coverage of Tokyo 2020, less than during the Beijing, London and Rio Olympics. BBC One nonetheless had more hours of coverage than ever before with a red button stream offering an alternative event. The BBC recorded an audience of 45.24m for the 2016 Rio Games, a record for an overseas Olympics. It is the second-highest return for Britain in a post-war Olympics with the final tally only two behind the haul from Rio 2016.

Sri Lanka reports 1,928 new cases of Covid-19
August 9, 2021 06:32 pmThe Ministry of Health reports that another 1,928 persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. This increases the total number of Covid-19 cases confirmed in the country thus far to 331,922. Sri Lanka’s tally of Covid-19 recoveries has risen to 295,518 while the death toll from the virus has reached 5,111.

The Galaxy A12 Nacho prices are RUB11,990 ($160) for the 3/32GB variant, RUB13,990 ($175) for the 4/64 GB, and RUB16,990 ($190) for 4GB RAM and 128 gigs of storage. Court rejects bail application of Rishad s wife
Colombo Magistrate’s Court has rejected the bail applications filed by four suspects including the wife of MP Rishad Bathiudeen. The order was issued when the case regarding the death of a teenage domestic worker serving the Bathiudeen household was taken up today (August 09). On July 15, a 16-year-old girl, who was serving as domestic help at the Bathiudeen residence, succumbed to severe burn injuries while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The judicial medical officer who conducted the post-mortem on the girl’s death concluded that she had been sexually exploited. Her remains were exhumed on July 30 for a second postmortem by a court-appointed specialist medical team.

Battle will continue for teacher demands: Mahinda Jayasinghe
At a press conference held by the Teachers-Principal Trade Union Alliance, Senior Secretary of the Teachers Trade Union Mahinda Jayasinghe accused the government of being inconsistent when it comes to pandemic control, and further stated that the battle is still on for the demands made by teachers. Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin stated that a cabinet intervention is much needed to come to an agreement and solution. These comments were made in regard to the recent trade union action of teachers across Sri Lanka. Over 200,000 public school teachers have been holding a national online learning strike since July 12 in protest of salary anomalies and other demands.

Redmi 10 leaks with specs and images: 50MP camera confirmed
The website is currently having issues displaying the listings, but other websites managed to gather all the info like specs and official images. The phone will have four cameras on the back, with the main one packing a 50MP sensor. The Redmi 10 is listed for SGD249, which is about $185, although obviously pricing will vary by region. TL;DR Specs and renders of the Redmi 10 have leaked online. The Redmi number series is one of the most popular Xiaomi phone families, coming in under the Redmi Note family but still delivering a solid experience. Ranil calls for immediate action to avoid a national catastrophe
Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe has appealed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to immediately initialise a Pandemic Control Committee, under the instructions of the World Health Organisation (WHO). With the sudden surge in Covid positive patients and the fast spreading Delta variant, Wickremesinghe warns of a national catastrophe if measures are not taken seriously. He further stated that Sri Lanka has managed to survive the pandemic so far because of the doctors and medical representatives. “Every individual above the age of 12 years needs to be vaccinated. Wickremesinghe also added that it is not acceptable for the Army to administer vaccines unless it is done under the Ministry of Health.
