Transport operators demand Rs50 reduction in POL prices
Share:Rejecting recent reduction in POL prices by the federal government, the All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Federation (APPTOF) on Fiday demanded Rs50 per lite reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel. According to a spokesman, the coalition government had disappointed the nation as it failed to provide relief to the [inflation-hit] people in the last eight months. He said high POL prices had badly affected their businesses thropughout the country, adding the government should reduce the number of ministers and advisers to pass on financial relief to the nation.

DUHS awards degrees to over 2,000 graduates
The Vice-Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi said, “The world is changing. Blockchain and artificial intelligence are now widely understood.” Professor Qureshi made these comments during his address as the chief guest at the university’s 12th convocation. The VC said that the Dow University has produced a batch of more than 2,000 doctors, dentists and other health professionals to serve the humanity. He further said that the services and quality of education at Dow University have been appreciated at the national and international levels. A total of 2,082 degrees were awarded in which two international transplant surgeons received honorary degrees of Doctor of Science.

Nation remembers APS martyrs on 8th anniversary
Share:The 8th anniversary of the callous terrorist attack on the Army Public School Peshawar that left around 150 people martyred is being observed today (Friday). On December 16, 2014, at least 149 people including 132 students and 17 staff members were martyred and many others injured when terrorists attacked Army Public School Peshawar. After this tragic incident, the government chalked out the National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate terrorism from the country. Meanwhile in a statement, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf said the pain of Army Public School Peshawar tragedy is still fresh in the nation’s heart. He said the resilience and courage of the bereaved families and students of APS have reinforced the nation’s resolve to root out militancy in all forms and manifestations.

Forex reserves fall by $14.9m at $6.7b
The foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank fell by 0.2% on a week-on-week basis, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Thursday. On December 9, the foreign currency reserves held by the SBP were recorded at $6,700 million, down $14.9 million as compared with $6,714.9 million on December 2. The central bank didn’t give any reason for the decrease in reserves and only said that the “SBP’s reserves did not record any major change during the week ended on December 9, 2022”. Overall, the liquid foreign currency reserves held by the country, including the net reserves held by banks other than the SBP, stood at $12,570.2 million. Net reserves held by banks amounted to $5,870.2 million.

I get a lot of messages from children who have gone blind and deaf from cell phone addiction. Mentally, we are completely out of order when we have access to cell phones. People often enjoy and feel pleasure in the moment but in the long run, its use is very harmful. The students are not interested in studying and are connected with mobile phones for long periods of time.

The IHC chief justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition, and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon also appeared before the court. Justice Aamer during the hearing remarked that the city was constructed by ignoring the vital public facilities’ infrastructure like courts, schools, hospitals, and bus stands. Upon this, Mr Irfan Nawaz, while confessing the authorities’ incompetence and negligence, said that in 2018, the CDA approved the bus stands project, but there has been no development yet. "You must start your part, you are the head of the institution, you are the administrator, provide facilities to the people," IHC CJ remarked.

Bajwa did to Pakistan no enemy could, says Imran
Lamenting once again fettered rule and control during his time in PM’s office, Imran said that General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa “did to Pakistan what no enemy could do to the country”, adding that the former army chief gave NRO II to the then opposition. Imran said the way his party was treated in the past seven months was “unprecedented”. “[Our allies] were receiving calls from unknown numbers and were asked to stop supporting Imran Khan,” he said. “No enemy could do what General (retd) Bajwa did to Pakistan.”Imran dispelled the impression that he was seeking the establishment’s help to return to power and hoped that the establishment would remain “neutral”. TTP’s announcement
The announcement also came a day before a visit of a Pakistani delegation, led by foreign affairs state minister Hina Rabbani Khan, to Kabul. The TTP, also known as Pakistani Taliban, is a separate unit from the Afghan Taliban but both share a similar hardline ideology. The TTP’s announcement at this time adds challenges for the unstable Pakistani state on many fronts. TTP’s resumption of attacks, therefore, puts pressure on the army’s financial brackets and makes it challenging for the army to relaunch its offensive under restrictive financial resources. The TTP’s decision to resume attacks, therefore, multiplied already daunting challenges.
