But the latest Curia poll result suggests that things are not happy in National’s ranks. The most significant result was that Health is rising up the list of most important issues. And Labour needs to be up front and offer passionate public opposition. Labour needs to offer a passionate and thought through alternative.

I’d sit through ‘Genie in a Bottle’, ‘Man I Feel Like a Woman’ and ‘Boom Boom Boom Boom’ with my finger poised on the record button, waiting for number one. )’ by Lou Bega would always come in at the top spot with that big farting trumpet and that impossibly thin moustache. It happened when Bob the Builder sang “a little bit of timber and a saw, a little bit of fixing, that’s for sure” on his first album(?). It happened when Lou Bega played 90s nostalgia festival So Pop and lipsynched his way through his 4pm set. Even as a fan of both Lou Bega and Cruskits, I never expected to see the two combine forces.

Police released the name of the young man who died in a water-related incident in Milford Sound on Tuesday — he was 23-year-old Daymon Nuhaj. Originally from Nelson, Mr Nuhaj had been living in Milford Sound since 2019 working as a tourism guide at Rosco’s Milford Kayaks. The tour guide was passionate about the outdoors, Mr Gaudin said. Mr Nuhaj, along with two friends, paddled from Lake Hauroko to Milford Sound via the coast. Mr Nuhaj was an experienced kayaker who was very professional, methodical and organised — customers had loved him, he said.

The way has been cleared for an Australian diplomat's partner to face charges over a post-Bledisloe Cup street fight after Australia removed his immunity from prosecution. Diplomatic immunity is a right commonly afforded to overseas-based representatives giving them freedom to conduct diplomatic business without being arrested or detained. Given the seriousness of the incident, NZ Police initiated a request to have immunity stripped from the man so he could be charged. "Once the police arrived they barged him into a wall and he started screaming over and over 'I've got diplomatic immunity'." Prime Minister Chris Luxon sidestepped whether he supported the man facing charges, and Foreign Minister Winston Peters has declined to comment throughout.

Artist Josh Drummond who painted the Christopher Luxon portrait was raising funds for Kiwipal and Rainbow Youth. Journalist David Farrier first reported on the Luxon artwork last week on his website Webworm. No one from Trade Me was available for an interview but in a statement, James Ryan from policy and compliance said the artwork breached its guidelines. “I just thought it was weird because the painting isn’t meant to be sexually suggestive and graphic, it could mean pretty much anything. He said Trade Me’s reasoning for removing his artwork came across as hypocritical based on the types of items he found on its website, including Nazi regalia.

The New Zealand Government ran a $12.9 billion deficit in the year ended June 2024, as revenue growth was outpaced by increased spending. In a summary of the financial statements, Treasury said total revenue had increased by $14.3 billion during the year despite the softening economy. This was the largest annual deficit since the pandemic in 2020, both in nominal terms and as a percentage of the economy. Besides covid, New Zealand last ran a bigger deficit after the Global Financial Crisis and Christchurch earthquakes. While Willis didn’t get to set this budget, she took office halfway through the year and made policy changes which improved the OBEGAL balance by $1.1 billion.

Latest Roy Morgan Poll is out and it’s ANOTHER reason why Labour fucking up the leak of their internal Talbot Poll matters so much. Roy Morgan says:National – 37.5%ACT – 10%NZF – 7.5%- Sponsor Promotion -Labour – 23%Green – 14%Māori Party – 4%THIS is why it was so important for Labour not to fuck up the leaking of their Talbot Polls. I have been vicious and destructive towards the Labour Party Staffers who fucked up the first Talbot Poll leak and then the second one as well. Because the leaked Talbot Polls tell a completely different story to Roy Morgan and TU Poll and because Newshub is dead there are only 4 polls left, TVNZ, Roy Morgan TU and Talbot internals. By repeatedly fucking up the leaking of the Talbot Polls, Left wing supporters now feel depressed and lost.

While the Government’s revenue, including its tax take, rose over the year, the expenses it faced increased by more. There have been calls for ACC to improve its claims management processes to keep a lid on these costs. Altogether, the Government’s expenses rose by 11.3% over the year, while its revenue only increased by 9.4%. Turning to the Government’s debt position, net core Crown debt rose by 13% over the year to $175.5b. While this was a little below what the Treasury forecast at the May Budget, it still surpassed Willis’ debt target.
