New Zealand's rate of migration-driven population growth has more than doubled compared to pre-Covid levels. The latest figure is the biggest ever migration-driven population gain for any 12 months period. The current annual net gain of 119,000 came from a net gain of 164,000 overseas citizens coming to this country long term and a net loss of 45,000 New Zealand citizens heading overseas long term. That was the biggest ever net loss of NZ citizens in any 12 month period. The previous record was a net loss of 44,000 in the 12 months to February 2012.

World Rugby is a hot topic with fans once again following a report stating that Aaron Smith’s try in the World Cup final should not have been disallowed. ReactionsScottish content creator Graham Love quickly made reference to Scotland’s 2015 Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat to Australia. “World Rugby has admitted that the 1987 World Cup was just a trial run and shouldn’t count as the real thing,” @scrumming_ten wrote. While many fans dug into the World Cup archives for their jokes, one opted to address a more social debate. READ MORE: Damian Willemse breaks Rugby World Cup record after Springboks victory

Yesterday the parties each gathered in Wellington so that negotiations continue. For some reason Winston Peters did not travel to Wellington to be with his NZ First caucus but instead stayed in Auckland. From One News:New Zealand First leader Winston Peters and ACT’s David Seymour have joined forces to negotiate with the National Party after not getting what they want, 1News understands. And the calculated insult in preventing Luxon triumphantly attending the APEC convention is something I suspect National will not forget. This Government has all of the signs of being a coalition of chaos.

Westpac senior economist Satish Ranchhod says "New Zealand’s retail sector is clearly turning down". Retail spending fell by 0.7%, while core retail spending, which excludes fuel and motor vehicles, also dropped 0.7%. The monthly spending figures have been quite volatile, but the general emerging trending appears to be for slowing spending, particularly on discretionary items. Mundy added that on an annual basis, retail card spending is now also falling (-2% year-on-year). "Given that card spending is not adjusted for inflation, which rose roughly 5.5% over the same timeframe, the decline in real retail card spending is likely closer to -7% yoy."

First there were suggestions India asked for a slow pitch to be prepared. Now, it’s been reported Indian officials have switched the pitch for their crunch World Cup semifinal against New Zealand in Mumbai without the ICC’s permission. However, according to the Daily Mail, the match will now be played on a surface used twice during the tournament, potentially assisting India’s world-class spin attack in the fifth match played in Mumbai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also sent its own experts to various venues for each game,” the Indian Express reported. ‘It won’t be a turner but the team had asked for a slow pitch.

A New Zealand couple demanded a refund from an airline after they were trapped next to a snorty, gassy creature on a 13-hour flight from Paris to Singapore. Adding to the pooch poaching the leg space, the couple soon discovered the owner wasn’t the only one who suffered anxiety. As the couple moved seats, they were asked to file an incident report to the airline. After the flight was done, the couple emailed the airline’s customer service team to complain. But they argued that didn’t cover the difference between their premium economy seats and the economy seats they landed.
