Incoming All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson is excited to write the next chapter of the ‘legacy’ as he prepares to take over from departing coach Ian Foster but hasn’t decided who will captain the side yet. One hallmark of Foster’s tenure was the captaincy of Sam Cane which remains an uncertainty heading into the Robertson era. Robertson remained coy on the matter in a wide-ranging interview with Stuff.co.nz, advising he wants to allow for ‘breathing room’ following the Rugby World Cup final. Both will return to New Zealand in time for the All Blacks two Tests with England, Robertson’s first challenge as All Blacks head coach. At 30 years old, he is expected to make it through to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Five people have been injured at a Santa parade in Auckland's Avondale this morning after a Burger Fuel-branded car reportedly hit a brass band. "Unfortunately a small group of people took it upon themselves to retaliate, and three people - including two children - were pulled from the vehicle and assaulted." An eyewitness at the scene said the car hit a brass band, the NZ Herald reports. "We have a Burger Fuel representative at the scene and will be working with police to ascertain what has happened." The event was Avondale's first-ever Santa parade and was originally scheduled to run from 11am to 2pm.

That has reduced the amount needed for a 20% deposit from $134,000 to $119,800, while a 10% deposit has declined from $67,000 to $59,900. Mortgage payments are considered unaffordable if they chew up more than 40% of after-tax pay. If that was too hard, they could try to buy a home with a lower deposit. Which leaves typical first home buyers between a rock and a hard place. On the one side there's the rock of an increasingly unattainable deposit, and on the other there's the hard place of unaffordable mortgage payments with a low equity loan.

Incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has leapt into the political unknown, negotiating two coalition agreements in order to form a government with ACT and NZ First as part of the first three-way coalition deal under MMP. Public services and regulationCutting “non-essential” back office public service jobs, and setting reduction targets, “informed” by the increase in jobs since 2017. The public service has been a political punching bag this election campaign, for the right bloc. The agreement singles out 2017 as a year to give consideration to regarding public service headcount. Labour leader Chris Hipkins, who used to oversee the public service, said this was undoing more than decades-worth of progress to create a more inclusive public service.

Nicola Willis told TV3's Newshub Nation that New Zealand First and Act were "insistent" the smoke-free legislation be reversed. "We have to remember that the changes to the smokefree legislation had a significant impact on the government books, with about a billion dollars there," she said. Public health experts said legislation could have saved the health system $1.3b over 20 years. Health Coalition Aotearoa co-chair Professor Lisa Te Morenga said scrapping the legislation would cost thousands of lives, with the worst impact on Māori. "We had believed that Shane Reti supported the Smokefree legislation ... so to hear they're going to repeal it is really a gut punch."

Parliament will be open for non-ceremonial business on December 5th as there are only three sitting days left in this month. There are only nine sitting days in December. Even if urgency is invoked and very long parliamentary ‘days’ are forced, this leaves little time for any substantive legislation that to pass this year. These would also have to compete for sitting days with any Nicola Willis face saving pre-xmas mini-budget. In this case the rise of a previously subservient Act party to a higher status, and dealing with Winston Peters on the government benches.

The leaders of the National, Act, and NZ First parties have signed on the dotted line, agreeing to form the first three-party coalition in New Zealand’s MMP era. Detailed coalition agreements struck between National and each of the other parties outline policy commitments and compromises that will be supported by all three partners. Prime Minister-designate Christopher Luxon made it clear during the election campaign that his preference was for a two-party coalition with the Act Party. Similarly, National, Act, and NZ First have formed an alliance to push back on, what they see as, high levels of government spending, heavy-handed regulation, and eroding social values. Act like itWhile obvious concessions were made to NZ First during the negotiations, the Act Party also secured a number of its key priorities.

Mr Luxon signed two independent documents, comprising Confidence and Supply Agreement with ACT Leader David Seymour and New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters. As a part of the coalition agreement, Mr Luxon had to concede his proposal to tax foreign buyers purchasing properties in New Zealand. Mr Luxon said that all three parties have accepted ACT’s policy to speed up the rate at which interest deductibility for rental properties is restored. The parties promised to ‘restore law and order’ during their campaign and Mr Luxon addressed this issue during his speech. The parties have agreed to adopt ACT’s policies to reintroduce partnership schools and to allow state schools to become partnership schools,” Mr Luxon said.
