Video / NZ HeraldA highly trusted assistant manager who stole $88,000 worth of cash and cigarettes from an Invercargill bar has avoided prison and won’t have to repay what she took. Sandra Maree Waddick, 58, was sentenced to 12 months’ home detention in the Invercargill District Court this morning after she pleaded guilty to two charges of theft in a special relationship. In June last year, the Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT) investigated discrepancies in the cigarette stock levels at Waddick’s workplace. She said it started when she would take a packet of cigarettes and pay for them on pay day. That escalated to stealing two or three packets a week and ultimately she took $48,637 worth of cigarettes since 2014.

The adverts for Latam Airlines appeared in error, the news website says. News website Stuff has blocked adverts appearing on its homepage that purported to show flights could be purchased to South America for as low as $79. The Latam Airlines ads were visible on Thursday this week, but disappeared after inquiries from The Spinoff. The ads, which ran just below the top section of Stuff’s front page, appeared to show that tickets to Rio de Janeiro on the Chilean airline were available for an unbelievably reasonable $79. They had appeared on the site as a “programmatic ad buy” and were not a “direct booking” with Latam Airlines, the news outlet said.

(Getty)NZ Airports said flights with only one or two passengers were very rare when flying domestically because of airline capacity constraints. "One reason airlines fly with very few passengers is to defend a very valuable 'slot' - or an arrival time and gate at a busy or crowded airport," he said. "During COVID, airlines in Europe and the US flew such ghost flights to keep their slots for when the pandemic passed and passenger numbers regrew." People rebook on other flights when their flight is delayed, leaving fewer people on the original flight at the new time. This UK couple danced across the aisle to celebrate being the only two passengers flying from Krabi, Thailand to Penang in Malaysia in 2016.

As a galvanising process, you feel this has become real and you're going to make a record and it's going to come out. A Catholic Education by Teenage FanclubAn interesting thing about Teenage Fanclub is you’ve got multiple songwriters and have had throughout the entire career of the band. But every album still sounds like a Teenage Fanclub album. When we started the band — Teenage Fanclub first started recording stuff in 1989 — we started thinking about doing this thing in maybe the two years before that. As people in a band called Teenage Fanclub, when we thought about a name for the band, we didn't want a literary or artistic reference.

Gareth Bayliss joined outdoor media company Phantom Billstickers as Client Director last April, after working in business capability development at business incubator The Icehouse. We asked him for his thoughts on 2023, and what he’s looking forward to in 2024. Phantom Billstickers’ HPA campaigns are not just advertisements; they are immersive experiences that engage the community. In the last 10 months I have heard many stories from the last 41 years of Phantom Billstickers and they are all inspirational. A news event that didn’t get the attention it deserved: “Gareth Bayliss Joins Phantom Billstickers”.

"I wish to make clear my expectation that, with over 25,000 people on the social housing waitlist, social houses owned by Kāinga Ora are not to be left empty for a day longer than absolutely necessary. It is my expectation that Kāinga Ora works with much greater urgency to fill its vacant homes," Bishop wrote. "Of these new homes, 287 were empty for more than four months despite thousands of families waiting for social homes such as these." You might be living in a motel or you might be bunking with firends and familybut you need a social house."

From Felix Desmarais at One News:The survey, the sixth ‘Mood of the Workforce’ conducted annually by the CTU, gathered 2000 responses. Responses were from people who responded to an email from the CTU to a random selection of 50,000 people from the CTU’s ‘Together’ email list. The survey email was sent to a sample of the CTU’s contact list, not every member. Getting rid of fair pay agreements and extending the 90 day fire at will law will not improve worker’s conditions.
