I call my overseas trips “bleisure” trips. This way, my business trips become more pleasurable and productive. Macau, Vietnam, Nepal and Mongolia. Above all, the truest joy I derived from my Vietnam trips is that I met a lovely child named Arthur Le-Nguyen who turned three this year. It is known as the most beautiful temple of Nepal.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 4): The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is temporarily frozen to enable the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to comprehensively restidy and reevaluate it. “During the MM2H freeze period, MOTAC as coordinator of the programme is unable to process new applications forwarded to it. This takes into consideration that processing of the MM2H applications involves various ministries and agencies which are also impacted by the temporary freeze. Foreign nationals could also refer to the Department of Immigration Malaysia for information on obtaining a suitable immigration pass to reside in Malaysia over a long period. The ministry hopes that all parties would support the government’s desire to improve the MM2H programme for it to be at par with that of other countries.

Lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah used the strong words during his cross-examination of Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi here during Najib’s 1MDB trial involving RM2.28bil at the High Court on Tuesday (Aug 4). Shafee suggested that 1MDB was run by “a bunch of idiots” as the company had disbursed close to US$600mil to the fake Aabar for the development of TRX business district in 2012. The witness explained that at that time, Aabar BVI was thought to be a subsidiary of Aabar Investments PJS as they had the same directors; Khadem al-Qubaisi and Mohamed Badawy al-Hussainy. Shafee then referred to the fake Aabar as “small Aabar” and the real Aabar as “big Aabar” and said 1MDB had once again fallen into “the cobra pits” in its investment dealings. Shafee: Do you notice that we are moving in many cobra pits... 1MDB must be run by a bunch of idiots to walk through these pits.

I skipped the WGC in Memphis because I needed that milestone - it's allowed me to press the reset button. "We have seven majors in 11 months. That's a career's worth of opportunity and we're lucky to be playing for it," Rose said. I get miserable when I'm not playing well and it's in everyone's interest I rebound...

Shelters for dogs and cats are common enough, but a donkey sanctuary? For Christian Harfmann, 54, his donkey sanctuary happened quite organically. So Harfmann asked the owner to sell the animal to him. Harfmann bought four donkeys (and a foal) from shepherds in neighbouring villages and paid a token sum for them. To give the donkeys a purpose, Harfmann puts them to good use in guided and unguided hikes for tourists.

PUTRAJAYA: Individuals returning to Malaysia who refuse to sign a letter of undertaking to pay quarantine charges will be sent to public training institutes instead of hotels for their 14-day mandatory quarantine. Ismail Sabri pointed out that quarantine charges at hotels or at public training institutes are of the same amount. For foreigners of certain categories allowed to enter Malaysia during the recovery movement control order (MCO), they are to pay the full cost of quarantine. The Immigration Department had warned that it would revoke the long-term visit pass of any foreigners who refused to pay the cost of quarantine. "For those who have completed their studies, only students who have sponsorship need not pay for quarantine cost, as it will be borne by their sponsors," he said.

People want to debate whether wearing a mask works against Covid-19, but the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it’s the gloves you should take off. Both the US and European CDCs have released guidelines stating that glove use isn’t a necessary preventive tactic when it comes to Covid-19. The US CDC guidelines say gloves “will not necessarily protect you from getting Covid-19 and may still lead to the spread of germs”. “I think that disposable surgical gloves don’t really have a place in coronavirus (protection),” she says. In preventing the spread of Covid-19, Bartlett says it’s important to focus on what works.

“It is now complex, effective and potentially dangerous.”Yet healthcare professionals have sometimes been let down by decision-makers when patients experience danger due to structural and organisational deficiencies in healthcare facilities. The Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) fires in Johor Baru illustrate how all the efforts of healthcare professionals may end up for naught in such situations. Subsequently, it was announced that fire audits would be carried out in all Health Ministry hospitals, starting with the older ones. This was similar to a 2015 review of fire safety in four public hospitals, published in the Advances in Environmental Biology journal. Another pertinent question concerns the prima facie non-compliance with the Cabinet decision to make the fire investigation report public.
