Taxes can now be paid through e-payments: Finance Ministry
The Tripoli based Finance Ministry of Finance announced last Thursday (16 May) that to facilitate the tax payment process for citizens, Minister of Finance Khaled Al-Mabrouk has adopt the electronic payment method for collecting income tax. The Ministry said he directed his instructions to the Tax Authority to prepare the necessary infrastructure to activate the electronic payment system in safe ways in accordance with the controls of the Central Bank of Libya.

Workshop on ‘‘Regulating the Legal and Banking Framework’’ in Libya issues final recommendations
The final recommendations of the workshop on ‘‘Regulating the Legal and Banking Framework with the Participation of the Private Sector and International and Local Financing Institutions’’ held in Tripoli from 14 to 16 May were issued yesterday. Libya's eastern government investigating disappearance of lawmaker
(Reuters) - Libya's eastern-based authorities are investigating the disappearance of a member of parliament, the region's interior ministry said, and it did not believe he had been killed. "The ministry of interior also strongly denies the news being circulated about his (Aldrasi's) killing," the statement said. In July 2019, HoR member Siham Sergewa and her husband were abducted from their home in Benghazi. Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, is home to the HoR and Hamad's government, which is allied to the Libyan National Army of military commander Khalifa Haftar. The HoR was elected in 2014 when Libya divided following a civil war between rival administrations in the east and west.

Libya's Berniq Airways buys six Airbus aircraft

Berniq did not disclose the cost or a timeline for delivery. Berniq is headquartered in Libya's second-largest city, Benghazi. ADVERTISEMENTIt operates domestic flights from Benghazi to Labraq in the east, and to Tripoli, Misrata and Zintan in the west. The war caused damage to up to 20 aircraft, including Airbus models, at Tripoli International Airport in 2014.

First batch of trees for Tripoli’s one million tree planting project arrive – over 45,000 trees planted in 16 months
The Tripoli Public Services Company announced the last Tuesday (14 May) the arrival of the first batch of trees that are part of the one million tree planting project in greater Tripoli. The project comes after the signing of a sponsorship contract between the Tripoli Public Services Company and the Oil Investment Company, Oilinvest, for a reforestation and carbon capture project in Libya. The US State Department to Nova: "Russia uses Libya as a platform to destabilize the Sahel and Africa"

Bahrain Declaration calls for deployment of UN peacekeeping forces in Palestinian
CAIRO – 16 May 2024: The Bahrain Declaration, issued at the conclusion of the 33rd Arab States Council Summit here Thursday, called for deploying UN peacekeeping forces in the occupied Palestinian territories until the two-state solution is implemented. In the declaration, the Arab leaders renewed their categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Marshal Haftar Hails ‘Dignity’ Victory, Vows Democratic Future on 10th Anniversary
In a fiery speech during a military parade marking the 10th anniversary of the Dignity Operation, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Supreme Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) issued defiant vows and called on Libyan patriots to unite behind a democratic vision for the country’s future. Addressing the crowd in Benghazi, Marshal Haftar declared it a source of “pride and honor” to celebrate the anniversary of the Dignity Battle, in which the LNA gained victory over terrorism and extremism. “The future opened its doors and Libya breathed peace after terrorism nearly turned its rivers and valleys into bloodstreams,” the military commander said. “The Libyan people will remain stronger than all seditions, fraternizing and reconciling, without interference from any party claiming to reconcile between its people,” he declared defiantly. Oil workers join strike in Libya's Benghazi over security
TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Oil company workers in Benghazi, eastern Libya, will join a strike of civil servants and private companies on Tuesday to protest against a deteriorating security situation in the port city, an oil official said. Civilian servants and staff at some private firms went on strike on Tuesday to demand all militias to leave Benghazi, Libya's second largest city. "Staff in the oil sector in Benghazi... will join the civil obedience starting today," said Saad Fakhri, deputy head of Libya's union of oil workers. The strike would affect administrative workers in firms such as Arabian Gulf Co and Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Processing Company, two subsidies of state National Oil Corp (NOC), he said. Stability in eastern Libya is key for oil supplies because about 60 percent of Libya's oil production comes from the region.

South Africa urges UN's top court to order cease-fire in Gaza to shield citizens in Rafah
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — South Africa urged the United Nations’ top court on Thursday to order a cease-fire in Gaza during hearings over emergency measures to halt Israel’s military operation in the enclave’s southern city of Rafah. The court has already found that there is a “real and imminent risk” to the Palestinian people in Gaza by Israel’s military operations. South Africa argues that the military operation has far surpassed justified self-defense. South Africa has to date submitted four requests for the international court to investigate Israel. South Africa initiated proceedings in December 2023 and sees the legal campaign as rooted in issues central to its identity.
