October 11, 2024: Libya has been chaotic since dictator Muammar Gaddafi was ousted from office and killed in 2011. Eastern Libya is controlled by the LNA (Libyan National Army) while western Libya is run by the Government of National Accord (GNA). By the end of 2019, Turkey was on the brink of deploying combat troops and warships to Libya as part of an effort to prevent the LNA from reuniting Libya. Although Libya holds significant oil reserves, the volatility in production has hampered consistent revenue generation. The current military and economic situations in Libya are chaotic.

We made all arrangements to receive the team in Uyo on arrival. “It was only an hour after the team was airborne that he told me the delegation would be landing in Port Harcourt. That disrupted so many things, but we still raced on hurdles to get approval from federal authorities to allow their plane to fly them to Uyo once they concluded immigration formalities in Port Harcourt. “If they travelled on buses that were not air-conditioned, that had nothing to do with the NFF as they hired their own buses. The members of the Security Council called on all Libyan parties to participate and cooperate constructively to address outstanding issues through a comprehensive and purposeful dialogue, stressing the need to take the necessary steps to complete financial arrangements and prepare a unified budget to ensure the stability of the Libyan financial system. This came in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, following a briefing by the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Koury, who addressed the most prominent political, economic and security developments in the country. The members of the Security Council welcomed, in a statement published by the UN mission on its Facebook page, the agreement reached between the Libyan parties regarding the Central Bank of Libya and its approval by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, calling on all parties to fully and quickly implement the agreement, including the appointment of a board of directors. The Security Council expressed its concern about the impact of the crisis on Libyan citizens and the financial and economic situation in Libya, stressing the need to unify state institutions, also calling on all Libyan parties to participate and cooperate constructively to address outstanding issues through a comprehensive and purposeful dialogue, which paves the way for the unification of all institutions. The statement also called for strengthening commitment to an inclusive Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process leading to free, fair, transparent and inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections across Libya as soon as possible.

A convoy of cars decorated as if they were heading to a wedding has turned out to be a cunning attempt at human trafficking in Libya. The migrants were hidden in a convoy of six cars, typically used at Libyan weddings, a choice made to avoid suspicion. The plan was to transport migrants from the desert regions to coastal areas, presumably with the aim of putting them on boats to Italy. The armed group has gained a reputation in the fight against smuggling and organized crime in western Libya. According to the latest report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of migrants in Libya reached 761.322 people between June and July 2024, distributed across 100 municipalities.

CAIRO – 10 October 2024: Egypt has refuted the claims made by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, regarding the alleged involvement of the Egyptian air force in the ongoing battles in neighboring Sudan. The ministry underscored Egypt’s dedication to the security, stability, and unity of Sudan, both its land and people. Dagalo, known as Hemedti, also claimed that the alleged Egyptian airstrikes have caused his troops to retreat from the strategic Jebel Moya area in Sennar state. Dagalo additionally asserted the presence of fighters from various nations, including Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Eritrea, participating in the Sudan conflict. Moreover, in July 2023, Cairo hosted the Sudan Neighboring States Summit, where the heads of state and governments of the Central African Republic, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya, and South Sudan convened to deliberate on potential solutions to the crisis.
