President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has named Deputy Commerce Minister for Administration, Scholastica Tanneh Nyenkan- Nimley as Acting Minister of Commerce & Industry. As Deputy Minister for Administration, Madam Nyenkan-Nimley, for the past eight months worked expeditiously along with former Minister Modad in overseeing administrative functions of the Ministry. Her duties include ensuring efficient operation and coordination among various departments of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, implementing policies, procedures and regulations in accordance with the Ministry's objectives and the Liberian government's vision. While serving as Deputy Minister for Administration, she also assisted the Minister proper to formulate and implement policies geared toward achieving the mandate and goals of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), etc. Madam Scholastica Tanneh Nyenkan-Nimley comes to the position with considerable wealth of experience.

Though President Boakai has appointed an acting minister, insiders revealed that the administration is working behind the scenes to find a permanent replacement for Modad. Before the Boakai administration, Kamara was relatively unknown. During a recent trip with the President, Kamara allegedly lost his temper, an incident that detractors are reportedly using to challenge his bid for a key post. However, despite his prominence, President Boakai only appointed him to serve on a couple of boards. As Deputy Minister for Administration, Nyenkan-Nimley has worked closely with former Minister Modad for the past eight months, overseeing the Ministry’s administrative functions.

Monrovia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has halted the eviction of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) from its headquarters. The Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Jefferson Koijee condemned a communication from Police Inspector General Coleman. Police Inspector General on October 7, 2024, invited opposition party CDC and the owners of the property that hosts the CDC party Headquarters to a meeting on October 10, 2024. In response to the letter, the Secretary General of CDC accused the LNP of being involved in a conspiracy against his party, the CDC. Secretary General Koijee said the action from the police to cite CDC to a meeting with the owner of the property that hosts the CDC Party Headquarters is not only pretentious, it is also downright ridiculous.

Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has condemned former Commerce Minister Amin Modad’s decision to purchase a luxury vehicle, calling it insensitive to Liberia’s ongoing economic difficulties. His resignation followed President Boakai’s refusal to meet with him after returning from the United Nations General Assembly, reportedly due to displeasure over the vehicle controversy. The Executive Mansion confirmed receiving Modad’s resignation letter, which cited the vehicle procurement exceeding the government’s budget for ministerial transportation. In a statement, the President accepted Modad’s resignation and expressed disappointment over the decision to acquire such an expensive vehicle at a time when the country faces economic hardships. Monrovia – Amin Modad, the embattled Minister of Commerce, has resigned, becoming the first cabinet member of the Boakai-Koung administration to do so. Sources indicate that the President was displeased with Modad over the controversy surrounding the purchase of a luxury vehicle. In his resignation letter, Modad stated that he was resigning to protect both his integrity and that of the administration. In September 2020, Modad was elected chairman of the Unity Party (then in opposition), defeating veteran politician Sen. Conmany Wesseh and others. A leaked chat from a senior Unity Party executive forum revealed Modad’s grievances, but he received little sympathy.
