LIBERIA AND IVORY COAST HAVE both had bouts of civil unrests, civil war and chaos. CIVIL CONFLICT in the Ivory Coast which lasted from September 19, 2002 – March 4, 2007 was triggered by a law quickly drafted by the government and approved in a referendum immediately before the elections of 2000 which required both parents of a presidential candidate to be born within Ivory Coast. LAST WEEK, Liberia pledged to prevent rebel attacks from its territory on neighbouring Ivory Coast. IT IS NO SECRET that the nature of violence has changed significantly in West Africa since independence with Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone offering chiling lessons in resilience. MANY REGIONAL OBSERVERS believe the crisis in the Ivory Coast is far from over.

According to the group, the fund would be used to cater to the needs of its members who may be stricken by severe illnesses, motor accident, natural disasters and death. Dear Mr. PRESIDENT:I WISH TO EXTEND MY COMPLIMENTS AND ALSO COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTLESS LEADERSHIP IN MOVING Liberia in the right direction. The basis of this open letter is the recent US Embassy security alert on Liberia which mentioned the increased armed robbery, drug abuse, and other matters of national security that have raised concerns. Private investment as you already know Mr. President has the propensity to fuel our economy and make this nation a better one. Finally, Mr. President, I am cognizant of the fact that you engaged with other developmental issues, even though I know national security tops the list of those issues. Thank you for taking your time to read this open letter and I wish God’s manifold blessings as you continue to lead this nation into prosperity.

Mr. Dillon, the historical struggle pedagogy of the progressive is an invocation of the necessity (both empirical and normative) for human freedom. The Progressive class has stood with the masses to educate them on the contrary that they may not fear freedom although at times carried risk and the potential for conflict. Two years later, from 2-14 July 1963, they returned to stage one of the largest strikes Liberia has ever known. The Rice Demonstration, which was organized by PAL and also supported by MOJA and SUP, was finally scheduled for April 14, 1979. Finally, Honorable Dillon history pointed out the fact that the April 14, 1979 Rice Demonstration was peaceful from downtown Monrovia until the protestors reached the foot of Capitol Hill.

The callous behavior to allow April 14, to pass without an active reminisce is therefore a missed opportunity for current day politicians. It was the day Liberia looked into God’s face and ignored his edict, “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm”. Since this was not done, I count it missed opportunity. That the Ministry of Information and Cultural and Tourism (MICAT) did not seize the opportunity display artifacts from those events to create tourists’ attractions via elaborate “April Nemesis” programs, was a missed opportunity. May we one day become aware that our callousness has led to missed opportunities that would have purged the nation state of its nemesis.
