The Military Staff Officers (MSO) in Sector Center (SC) Sevare, Mopti are supporting the operational and administrative activities among the United Nations Contingents deployed in Sector Center Area of Operations (AO). The Sector Center HQ is headed by a Brigadier General as Sector Commander and a Colonel serving as his Deputy Sector Commander.

MONROVIA – August 6, 2021: The new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mr. Jim Wright, Friday August 6, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), Hon. J. Aloysius Tarlue, Jr.Welcoming the new USAID Mission Director, the CBL Executive Governor lauded the partnership between USAID and the Bank and expressed reassurance of heightening collaboration with USAID. Six (6) of the fifteen (15) counties, many of which have mining communities are without banks, the Executive Governor indicated. Friday’s meeting was also attended by the Deputy Governor for Operations at the CBL, Madam Nyemadi D. Pearson and Deputy Governor for Economic Policy, Dr. Musa Dukuly. Buttressing the Executive Governor, the Deputy Governors re-emphasized the need for USAID to consider support to the establishment of additional cash hubs throughout the country.

A close friend of the missing LRA employee, who spoke to FPA based on anonymity, disclosed that family members and relatives of the missing employee do not want to politicize or point accusing fingers to anyone at this time. Joana Teta Moore is the wife of the missing LRA employee. Family optimistic“For now, the family members are not thinking that he is dead or he has been murdered. Two days later, another auditor from the LRA, Mr. George Fahnboto, reportedly died in a vehicle accident around 72nd Paynesville, outside Monrovia. Meanwhile, family members of Mr. Saryon Moore have reportedly complained the matter to the Liberia National Police (LNP).

MONROVIA – As part of efforts to ensure the commercial drivers comply or adhere to the adjustments in transportation fares, as well as to bring relief to commuters against the arbitrary hiking of transport fares by commercial drivers, the Ministry of Transport with immediate effect has reduced the registration fees of taxis from US$190 to US$75; commercial buses from US$250 to US$150; tricycles from US$150 to US$50. The National Transit Authority (NTA) round town buses are also been increased from 10 to 25 buses, especially in the morning hours to help students, marketers, workers, etc. According to the Ministry of Transport, there is a plan underway to reduce the transport fares of NTA buses from pick-up points to arrival points in Monrovia and its environs. The Ministry of Transport further disclosed that it is working with the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that a technical committee is set up to access the prices of assorted vehicle spare parts and petroleum products on the market to enable the authorities of the government to undertake future development or actions on the transportation sector of Liberia. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport is expected to conduct a two-day stakeholder for more than 500 motorcyclists in Monrovia aimed at ensuring road safety through the application and observance of safety rules or traffic law to help minimize the alarming rate of accidents or road crashes in Liberia which continues to post threats to the lives of citizens and properties, as well as undermine the socio-economic growth of the country.

The Group is an advisory body to the FDA and part of its role is to make policy recommendations to the FDA, assist the implementation of community forestry programs; and help to build stronger ties between FDA and forest communities. The communication was channeled through the Technical Manager of the Community Forest Department (CFD) at the FDA, Atty. Predicated on the observations, the forest working group called on FDA to develop and put in place a monitoring mechanism to track the disbursement of community forest funds. This process is necessary, as it would help FDA to determine whether ECs and CFMBs are properly managing community forest funds. This is a professional working group.

The emergence of the new variant couple with its level of devastation has left stakeholders calling for structural changes in the national response team if the country is to stand any chance of triumphing over the pandemic. Some people, including medical experts and other stakeholders, began to call for structural reform to the national response, especially the composition of the team. National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL) is one of many groups that feel wary over how health authorities are responding to the pandemic. That incident, however, brought some dark cloud over the credibility of the Covid-19 testing process, with many insinuating that the fight was being politicized. “This, the council believes, will give Liberians and our international friends and partners confidence in the handling of the COVID-19 situation here in Liberia,” the group said.

Kowo stated that financial reporting on time is one of the critical requirements that need attention. He added that “going forward”; comptrollers and accountants cross spending entities should be robust in their budget execution and processes that will give results on a timely basis in their financial reporting system. US-based Southeastern Humanitarian Organization Brings In 40ft Container Medical Supplies, others to Help Liberia Fragile Health SectorCongo Town – A forty-foot container of medical supplies, school bags, and sneakers has been shipped into Liberia by a southeastern humanitarian group based in the United States, Trumbo Development Association, and is expected to be delivered to the Ministry of Health. “So, these medical supplies will be distributed to health facilities in Montserrado, Margibi, Bomi, Grand Kru, and Grand Cape Mount Counties to help health crisis,” Keneah averred. She further stated that Trumbo National Development Association activities are not restricted to health sector only, but include education and other needs. She lauded the Ministry of Health for help in ensuring that the container came out of the Free Port of Monrovia. Madam Keneah then expressed hope that the supplies will be used at the various health facilities for the intended purpose.

MONROVIA – The acting chairman of the Council of Patriots (CoP), Anthony Tengbeh, Sr. has said the donation of over one thousand five hundred nose masks by the pressure group’s Maryland-USA chapter is a boast to Liberia’s COVID-19 fight. “This is not their first time the CoP has donated several nose masks and we want to appreciate the group for intervening when it matters most,” Tengbeh said. He said the nose masks will be distributed to people across Montserrado County. He then called for a speedy investigation into the police alleged action against the late Sheriff and students at the University of Liberia. Tengbeh said the CoP will take an action if the government fails to address these concerns.

The initiative was made possible by CENTAL with support from the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). We know that CENTAL is playing very important role in the fight against corruption in Liberia,” Mr. Romare said. MONROVIA — Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, has commended Bridge Liberia, the Ministry of education’s main and biggest partner in the LEAP Programme for its support to the Liberian Government in the education sector. According to the Vice President, Bridge Liberia which came into the Liberian education sector during a critical period and has made tremendous efforts over the years; she feels proud to commend these interventions. Bridge Liberia has been supporting the government since 2016, and is in 171 public primary schools in 11 of Liberia’s 15 counties. An independent three year study (RCT) showed statistically significant improvement in learning outcomes across Bridge Liberia supported schools. In a Gold standard RCT, students supported in Bridge Liberia programme were found to benefit by an equivalent of 2.5 years more of learning in just 3 years.

Monrovia – A man believed to be in his early 50s has been subjected to ‘Sassywood’ in Sinoe County after he was accused of witchcraft. Sassywood, despite being barred, is a form of trial by ordeal still in use in some parts of Liberia. He was placed in what looks like a town square, stripped naked, and beaten with cane and eddoes’ leaves as the crowd looks on. The ritualists believe that the Sassywood ritual drink can help determine if an accused person is guilty or innocent. The belief is that an accused person, who takes the concoction, lives if he or she is innocent.

During the one-day session, the stakeholders reviewed the 2015 TVET policy, which ran between September 2015 and December 2020, and from 1st – 10th June 2021. With deeper review of the previous policy, stakeholders were able to identify the gaps in the content and implementation of the 2015 TVET policy and how these gaps could be filled by focusing on the current economic environment and labour market skills needs to further strengthen the TVET system in Liberia. Mr. Salifou congratulated the Liberian government and the Inter-Ministerial Task Force (IMTF) on TVET for prioritizing education and TVET in the face of the many developmental challenges facing Liberia. He recalled that in March 2014, within the framework of the Capacity Development (CapED) programme, the GoL, UNESCO, World Bank, EU and other development partners had a consultation and validated the National TVET policy 2015-2020. “We are hopeful that the challenges of funding will not be encountered during the implementation of the Revised TVET Policy (2022-2027) and the policy will solve the problems,” Deputy Minister Smith-Forbes added.
