MoMo transactions hit GH¢518 billion in December 2025 – BoG
The agent network also expanded significantly, reaching 491,000 active agents by the end of the year, ensuring mobile money services were accessible to millions across the country. Balances held in mobile money wallets hit GH¢39.6 billion, the highest level in 2025, pointing to growing trust in mobile wallets not only as a payment tool but also as a safe store of value. With smartphone penetration rising, agent networks expanding, and consumer confidence growing, mobile money is expected to maintain its upward trajectory into 2026, reshaping how Ghanaians spend, save, and transfer money.

Stuck Metro Mass Spare Parts: Former MMTL boss replies Kale Cezar

The former Managing Director explained that the buses and spare parts were supplied to MMTL under a state-to-state arrangement between the governments of Ghana and Belgium, which exempted them from taxes. "At the initial stage, MMTL did not receive full tax exemptions from the government, slowing the process, and later, additional costs imposed by the shipping line further prolonged the release of the buses and spare parts," Adu Boahen said. Adu Boahen also claimed that by the time they succeeded in negotiating tax exemptions with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of Finance, the issue of shipping line costs also arose. "By the time the MMTL was able to get the Ministry of Finance to issue a waiver for the imports, the shipping line costs had also become an issue, with estimated charges of over GH¢300,000."

CSA raises alarm over WhatsApp Web scam threatening banking, MoMo accounts
