In the early hours of July 2, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services worked to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby grasslands. At one point, eight crews were working on the blaze, including pumper trucks due to a lack of hydrants in the area. The tower was owned by chemical manufacturing company Celanese Canada. No injuries have been reported.

Cluff, a longtime sports reporter who went on to host The Early Edition morning show in Vancouver from 1997 until he retired in 2017, died Tuesday, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, CBC reported. Palmer said that while sports were an important part of Cluff's career, he wanted people to know that he had other interests. The CBC reported that Cluff retired from his 41-year career with the broadcaster in 2017, after undergoing a quadruple heart bypass.

Hurricane Beryl strengthens into the earliest Category 5 Atlantic storm on record after devastating Windward Islands
CNN —Hurricane Beryl has strengthened into a Category 5 Atlantic hurricane — the earliest on record — as it powers across the Caribbean after bringing devastation to the Windward Islands, where at least one person is dead. Its intensity also marks just the second time an Atlantic hurricane has reached Category 5 status in July after Emily did so on July 17, 2005, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane Beryl “left in its wake immense destruction, pain, suffering, across our nation at this hour,” he said. The hurricane center also noted large swells from the storm will continue in the Windward and southern Leeward Islands for the next couple of days. The storm’s rapid intensification is very atypical this early into hurricane season, according to National Hurricane Center Director Mike Brennan.
