One killed, six injured after portion of roof collapses at Delhi airport's T-1NEW DELHI, June 28, 2024 (BSS/PTI) - One person died and six were injured after a portion of the roof of the Delhi airport's Terminal-1 collapsed on cars, including taxis, amid heavy rain early Friday, leading to suspension of flight departures, according to officials. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said he was monitoring the situation and the injured had been hospitalised. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said three fire tenders were rushed to Terminal-1 (T1) of the airport after a call about the incident was received around 5:30 am.

A Rohingya man has been killed allegedly over a power struggle at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar Ukhiya Upazila. The incident occurred at East Balukhali-8 camp around 11pm on Thursday, said Ukhiya Police Station chief Md Shamim Hossain. The deceased, 35-year-old Md Salek, was a resident of the camp’s D-76 block, reports bdnews24.com. The on-duty doctor advised that he be transferred to the 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital, Cox’s Bazar as he was in critical condition. Police sent Salek’s body to the Sadar hospital for an autopsy.

The airport area received about 148.5 millimetres of rain over three hours in the early morning, more than the average for all of June, according to India's weather office. The entire terminal, one of three at the country's biggest and busiest airport, was evacuated and an inquiry was ordered into the collapse, said the minister, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. Rescue work had been completed and eight injured people were taken to hospital, said Atul Garg, the director of Delhi Fire Service (DFS). At least 10 flights were cancelled and 40 were delayed while departures from Delhi airport were running late by an average of 50 minutes, according to data from flight tracking platform Flightradar24. GMR Airports Infrastructure, which operates Delhi International Airport, is also its top shareholder with a 64% stake.

Beatrice Police arrested two Beatrice men on Wednesday for possession of a controlled substance. According to the police report, just after 3 p.m., an officer saw a black Scion with a broken light assembly near Sixth and Ella streets. A search of the two men found an electronic scale with white crystalized residue on it in Doss' rear pants pocket. The report says the two men were advised of their Miranda rights, after which both men denied knowing about the pipe. Police arrested Doss for the scale and Louis for the pipe, and took both men to the Gage County Detention Center.
