When we talk about comets, people often think of a large, bright sphere followed by a long thin tail. ☄️A comet will be visible in the UK night sky for the next couple of weeks and our researchers need images to help improve forecasts of space weather. Images of the comet will enable the research team to record data about solar wind conditions local to the space projectile. If the tail detaches from the comet or appears to wobble, the team can determine there was an increase in solar wind activity nearby. The comet has been visible in our sky since February 14 and will remain so until the end of March.

Sport AnalysisWhen Liverpool approached Jorg Schmadtke to be their sporting director in the summer, he thought the offer was a joke. Indeed the club are currently conducting an internal review of football operations, according to one individual familiar with their ongoing search for a new sporting director. “It is a sensible thing to do because replacing Klopp and bringing in a new sporting director are both huge decisions in their own right. Of the outstanding external candidates, several are now free agents – including Paul Mitchell, the former Monaco and RB Leipzig sporting director. While his teams press and his club are data-driven, like Liverpool, they do not exhibit the same control as the Reds.

These include routes running between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, and the Borders Railway. However, despite more seats being available, ScotRail has urged rugby fans to plan ahead and allow for additional time when travelling. This is due to the limited access at Haymarket station caused by the ongoing redevelopment of an adjacent building. Scotland and England fans are being urged to go straight to Waverley Station after the final whistle is blown to reduce pressure on Haymarket. “We’d also encourage customers to travel straight to Edinburgh Waverley to catch their train home after the game due to the limited access and capacity at Haymarket station.”

Regarding Dr Tom McEwen’s letter published on 19th January, while I appreciate that some roads are dangerous for cyclists, I disagree with his suggestion that cyclists should be allowed to use the pavements. This would be dangerous for pedestrians. New housing estates have separate cycle and pedestrian routes which are the most direct routes to the shops, station, etc. I would suggest that a policy on these lines would be the best way to protect both cyclists and pedestrians. Let’s not put vulnerable pedestrians at risk by allowing cyclists to use the pavements.
