And then there is the issue of whether virgin or recycled plastic, recyclable or not? In 2022, almost 250,000 people from schools, households and communities across the country made The Big Plastic Count - the biggest ever investigation into UK household plastic waste – where people counted every piece of plastic that they brought into their house that week. Plastic is a huge part of the climate change problem, especially single use plastic, emitting greenhouse gases at every single stage of its lifecycle. I try and be as plastic free as possible, but in the last count we had 71 items of plastic waste in just that one week. The Big Plastic Count is at: www.thebigplasticcount.com.

Longstanding warnings from the oil tanker industry that too few of the ships are being built are coming back to haunt the market after Houthi attacks on commercial shipping caused widespread diversions in global petroleum trades. But after owners increasingly started to shun the southern Red Sea, the lack of new capacity is starting to bite: rates have seen spikes, and voyage durations are going up. Rates had been held in check last year as OPEC and its allies kept oil off the market. At the same time, a wider energy transition is meant do away with fossil fuels — dimming the industry’s outlook in the longer term. But increased avoidance of the southern Red Sea is adding to the duration of trades that had already become elongated due to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Some 18 organizations said they experienced a "drop in marine product prices," attributing the price decline to China's import ban. China banned imports of all seafood products from Japan shortly after the release in an effort to "protect the lives and health of the people." The Florida Man Games poke fun at the state’s reputation for bizarre stories that involve brawling, drinking and other antics carrying a risk of time in jail or intensive care. Florida Man Games organiser Pete Melfi said he was stunned to find nobody else had beaten him to the ripped-from-headlines idea for a spoof sporting event. “We kind of give a person an opportunity to live a day in the life of Florida man without ending up in a cop car,” said Mr Melfi. But he had to tone down some racier aspects of the Florida Man mythos to obtain a permit. The account touted “real-life stories of the world’s worst superhero”, sharing news headlines such as “Florida Man Bites Dog to ‘Establish Dominance’” and “Florida Man Tried to Pay for McDonald’s With Weed”.

Including none other than Piccadilly Circus, which to many might just seem like any normal road junction (although some do believe it is a real circus). What is Piccadilly Circus famous for? Piccadilly Circus was once a quiet residential area before it became a buzzing area for shops and entertainment in the 19th century. The name Piccadilly Circus does not link to any real circus but instead a tailor and the ancient language of Latin. The street of Piccadilly Circus was once called 'Portugal Street' for Queen Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese wife of King Charles II.

When The Tedeschi Trucks Band came to The Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, last week, they played Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” the first night, and The Boss’ “State Trooper,” the second. It occurred to me, in regard to “Atlantic City,” that that is a song that has already been memorably covered by many other artists, and so I decided to put together a collection of some of my favorites. You can watch videos for 20 of them, below. I have also included five of Springsteen’s own versions, below the 20 covers. (Springsteen’s 2024 touring, incidentally, will begin in less than a month: March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix).

A view of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after it started releasing treated radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, seen from a fishing port in Namie town, Fukushima Prefecture. Japan and China held a meeting last month over the release of treated radioactive water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea and China's subsequent import ban on Japanese marine products, sources close to the matter said Friday. At the online meeting, there was no major progress in their discussions, as China keeps in place the import ban on all seafood products from Japan in response to the water release while Japan has continuously asked for the removal of the measures. Japan has continued to discharge treated water into the ocean from the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, claiming the release is in line with international safety standards as reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. China, however, has labeled it "nuclear-contaminated water" and reacted harshly to the release by banning all imports of seafood products from Japan.
