PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Friday rejected the budget for the new fiscal year, terming it "anti-people" and "anti-business". The budget is based on "unrealistic assumptions" on inflation and economic growth, he said in a series of tweets. Imran went on to say that weekly inflation, as measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), came in at about 24pc. “This [24% spike] is prior to the budget, where will it hit after the budget?” he wondered. “The PTI rejects this anti-people budget,” he declared in a statement.

Players were being trained in different age groups and Pakistan football had taken the right direction, but some people with vested interests not only stopped its rapid progress but also destroyed future of many footballers. Our football can never progress unless these people set aside their vested interests and just start thinking for betterment of Pakistan football and footballers,” he added.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Friday said the government has asked the Indian government to return back PK Halder's money. He added that attempts are being made to bring back the money smuggled abroad. In his budget speech for the fiscal year 2022-23 in Parliament on Thursday, Mustafa Kamal proposed to give the opportunity to display the money smuggled out of the country in the income tax return. “If a taxpayer owns an asset outside Bangladesh and that asset does not appear in the income tax return, he will have the opportunity to do so by paying a fixed tax in the next financial year,” he observed. The minister proposed to levy tax at the rate of 15% on immovable property acquired abroad, 10% on immovable property abroad and on cash remitted to Bangladesh.

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he struck the back of a semitrailer on U.S. Highway 67 on Wednesday night, police said. Levi D. Ray was driving his 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 eastbound on Highway 67 near Meyer Road when he struck the back of a 2005 Freightliner Columbia ahead of him, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. The crash site is southwest of Festus. Ray, of Farmington, Missouri, was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the highway patrol said. The driver of the truck that was hit suffered minor injuries.

The cement sector lost 24% of market capitalisation while automobile assemblers’ capitalisation went down 13% during Jul-Mar FY22, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2021-22. The latest data suggests that the PSX has become the second worst performing market in the region after Sri Lanka in the entire current fiscal year (Jul-Jun FY22), it has been learnt. In addition to this, the downgrading of Pakistan by the MSCI from the Emerging Market Index to the Frontier Market Index with effect from December 1, 2021 sparked selling pressure at the bourse.
