Embedded in the main band of rain, severe thunderstorms developed in the unstable air over the Auckland region. But, as the climate continues to warm, the amount of water vapour in the air increases. I am confident climate change contributed significantly to the incredible volume of rain that fell so quickly in Auckland this time. One degree of warming in the air translates, on average, to about 7 percent more water vapour in that air. The globe and New Zealand have experienced a bit over a degree of warming in the past century, and we have measured the increasing water vapour content.

60% of journalists are now women in NZ and many are ardent fans of woke middle class identity politics (just check their twitter feeds to confirm that) and so the main lens of journalism in NZ is now identity. No better has this been made painfully apparent than in the woke media’s coverage of the appointment of Carmel Sepuloni. Read The Spinoff, Stuffs and NZ Heralds review of her appointment and it’s all identity politics soaked ‘you go girl’ feminism that champions her being the first Pacific Island Deputy. For the woke, diversity and representation are the only currency, meritocracy is a heteronormative white male privilege and nothing matters more than identity. Which is deeply problematic because a critical analysis of Carmel Sepuloni’s time as Social Welfare Minister highlights how shallow The Spinoff, Stuff and NZ Heralds ‘journalism’ is.

The tradable inflation rate (the international stuff) was muddied by an exceptionally large spike in airfares which wiped out the gains from lower petrol prices. Like the ASB economists, I’m still leaning towards the Reserve Bank doing just that, with a final 75 basis-point hike next month. The Reserve Bank under Governor Adrian Orr has yanked rates up again. Photo / Mark Mitchell, Herald montageI’m conflicted of course, and have previously written about concerns that the Reserve Bank could overdo the hikes and damage the economy.
