A good way to do this is to watch The Blue Wall, a series released late last year following the fortunes of the Tangaroa College First XV, who play in the Auckland 1A grade. Made by filmmaker Anthony Costello, The Blue Wall certainly does what it sets out to: showing just how much effort goes into preparing young players for a highly competitive competition. It's within these stories, where we're introduced to the players' families, that The Blue Wall packs its most emotional punch. Tangaroa's participation in the series shows just how misguided that decision was, whatever basis it was made on. Which is something, along with the unique south Auckland setting, that The Blue Wall does a fantastic job of celebrating.

Collectively our feelings are mixed, but I’m looking forward to letting my students know about this leap forward in communications technology. Also, while ChatGPT is big and shiny, we’ve known that AI writing is on its way for a long time. He documented the many workplaces already using AI writing software and concluded that there was still work to be done. Graduates need to be able to do things an AI language model can’t, and they need to be able to articulate their skill sets. These are being underscored and highlighted in preparation for the start of semester and hyperlinked to paragraphs about AI writing.

The latest mortgage data from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) shows that Kiwis continue to abandon the nation’s housing market following 4% of interest rate hikes from the central bank. It is also why the ANZ Bank forecasts a 22% peak-to-trough decline in New Zealand house prices.

The same people who were so grateful during the pandemic for “Jacinda keeping us safe” now expect Mayor Brown (and other leaders) to come up with similar platitudes and reassurances. Emergency footingPrior to the Super City, Auckland’s local councils worked together and developed five or six well-managed emergency operation centres (EOC) throughout the whole region. The only fly in the ointment has been the ongoing churlish behaviour of Mayor Brown. This was the real deal, and it appears that Wayne Brown is not. Give Wayne Brown a fighting chance guys, after all, you have given the Warriors 27 odd years.

Video / SuppliedAn Auckland bus driver has been labelled “crazy” for taking passengers through one of the areas worst hit by this morning’s deluge after video emerged of the bus driving through deep floodwaters in Onehunga. “Why was that bus driver driving into that water?” one asked. “All that driver has done is put all the passengers’ lives at risk.”“That bus driver should be fired,” another wrote. “Looks like the bus drivers are working harder than the mayor to keep the city running,” another joked. For now at least, the sense of entropy that surrounded Labour during the final part of Jacinda Ardern’s reign has gone. In 2020, former prime minister Jacinda Ardern’s rhetoric of transformation sounded promising. The problem with moderationWith the exception of the current one, every administration formed since the first MMP election in 1996 has needed the support of at least one other parliamentary party to govern. What if significant policy change is needed to address what the prime minister is calling the “bread and butter issues” facing New Zealanders? The departure of a woman from the role of prime minister may mean some of the repugnant behaviour that has become increasingly normalised receives less publicity.

Unemployment has very surprisingly, risen to 3.4% from 3.3%, while private sector hourly wage growth has slowed to 8.1% from 8.6% when it was expected to rise. "As it turns out, labour market figures were slightly on the softer side of our, and more importantly, the RBNZ’s expectations so we are responding accordingly. The RBNZ had expected unemployment to drop to 3.2% and this was widely expected among other economists too. In the December 2022 quarter, the labour force 'participation rate' remained at 71.7% and the employment rate remained at 69.3%. Despite lower response rates, we remain confident that the data is fit-for-purpose for New Zealand’s official labour market measures."
