Trying to unpack the youngest Prime Minister who was the first to give birth while in the role, a Prime Minister who is lauded overseas and threaten at home won’t be easy. When Ardern became prime minister in October 2017, New Zealand’s annual GDP growth was a modest 3.0 per cent which ranked 19th in the OECD. …you can’t pretend that Jacinda didn’t have serious policy wins and strong results. A Prime Minister who reset leadership dynamics while juggling national emergencies with an emotional intelligence that will echo down the corridors of history. Jacinda’s personal legacy will be a never ending security detail decades after she leaves Office because of fears some feral lunatic will attack her or her family.

Christopher Win avoided jailed by a "slim margin" when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court for sentencing today on of four charges laid under the Tax Administration Act 1994. Investigation of Win’s bank accounts revealed he used the Win Building account for "significant personal expenditure over the tax periods in question". Judge Couch rejected the argument that some of Win’s spending was not for personal enjoyment and said he would describe it as "discretionary expenditure." Judge Couch acknowledged that Win had made a genuine effort to pay back his debt and gave him discounts for his guilty pleas and genuine remorse for his actions. The judge arrived at an end sentence of 12 months’ home detention, saying Win avoided jail by a "small margin".

CPAG regards early childhood education as one way of mitigating child poverty in Aotearoa. Declining attendance, unhappy early childhood staff, inadequate teacher to child ratios and a focus on profit in the early childhood sector, all exacerbated by Covid, made for sober reading. Privatisation and early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand" predicted that occupancy rates would decrease as a result of Covid. Winners — Tennis playersFor getting to play tennis. As someone who has to do the odd overnight shift, in obviously less exerting conditions, I’m not feeling sympathy to the late hour/early morning playing conditions of tennis players. Winners — Women’s rugbyThe Black Ferns Sevens had the better of their opponents on the field all weekend in Hamilton ... and they had the better of their male rivals in catching the public eye. With many of the men’s Sevens players largely unknown to all but the most avid fan, the Ferns squad featured stars of last year’s XVs World Cup title. Look for more fireworks from Bracewell the next time the Black Caps are in India for the World Cup in October.

To disperse Anti-vaccine protesters who camp out for a week On the lawns of the New Zealand Parliament, the police had to use tricks: play haunting music to startle them. This discourse drives much of the mainstream media’s reporting about the NATO conference in Ramstein and about its outcomes. Russian information operations this week focussed on the Ramstein meeting consisted of more vague threats of escalation. Therefore we have seen a heated debate recently about NATO tanks. The United Kingdom fired the first shot, offering Ukraine Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. The Russian’s won a small and hopefully short-lived victory when Germany chose not to release NATO’s Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
