Posie Parker protest: Man accused of punching elderly woman appears in courtA young Gisborne man accused of punching an elderly woman in the head during the heated Posie Parker counter-protest in Auckland late last month appeared in court for the first time today, waving briefly to the magistrate before nervously folding his hands in front of him. That would make those appalled by the woke violence from the weekend happy, but we can’t afford to feed our vengeance fantasies here. People have a right to protest as much as Posie Parker has to speak, what happened on that weekend however went from protest to mob violence. That is what we are spending public money on, lies and more lies? Political violence is never acceptable and if we allow the woke to drive us into violent political street movements we are doomed.

The connection between climate change and tornadoes is complicated, with researchers not finding a clear trend in the number of tornadoes each year. This means that while the number of reported tornadoes has gone up, significant tornadoes that cause extensive damage haven’t necessarily trended upward over the same time period. - Advertisement -So why has the number of reported tornadoes increased? While researchers haven’t found a clear trend in the number of tornadoes each year, they have observed more “clumping” of tornadoes since the 1970s. Social media has made it easier than ever to share photos and videos of tornadoes, which could be contributing to the rise in reported tornadoes.

An Australian investor has applied to buy the lease for five holiday parks at Glendhu Bay, Wānaka, Albert Town, Queenstown and Arrowtown. The original lease still had about 21 years to run, Mr Sanders confirmed yesterday, when contacted by the Otago Daily Times. It is still at the Overseas Investment Office but there is a 99.9% chance it will happen," Mr Sanders said. Campers’ other concerns included keeping tourism revenue in New Zealand and honouring the Scaife family gift of land for the Glendhu Bay camp in the 1920s. If the new owner wanted to develop any of the five camps, council approval would be needed, Cr Smith said.

There is an immense problem in only using the lens of identity when selecting leadership in a Political Party. As a Green voter my entire adult life, the current Party barely represents the vision I want from it. Middle class woke identity politics has spread inside the Greens like covid at an anti-vax house warming party. Her oversight, insight and understanding of the process, system and solution based approach would unleash more genuine change in just one term than all the Green Party achievements since creation. Is the Green Party now being used to greenwash the activities of its own candidates?

Photo: Stephen Forbes / StuffA junior doctor's fight to be able to practise in New Zealand has paid off after changes by the Medical Council. But in September the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) said she did not meet criteria to work. But Das said she was contacted by the Medical Council in October to say it was reconsidering her application. That includes recently recognising overseas medical graduates, such as Das, who have passed the United Kingdom's General Medical Council exam. "The green list now has a total of 48 health roles, all of which are nationally important and all of which will be on the straight to residence pathway," Health Minister Ayesha Verrall said.

Scientists have modelled impacts of ancient submarine landslides recently discovered off the North Island’s West Coast. While only about seven per cent of tsunami events worldwide are triggered by underwater landslides, these sub-surface slips remain an important hazard for coastal communities. This graphic illustrates how underwater landslides can trigger tsunamis. “We know that they are the biggest underwater landslides in New Zealand and [have] been happening around once every million years,” she said. This map shows the locations of six ancient and large underwater landslide events in the Tasman Sea recently discovered by scientists.

Feedback on the Debate of the Day concept and format is welcome in this thread too. Today’s topic: should farms be regulated to centre climate action and nature? Rod Oram at Newsroom,Opinion: “National is committed to this country’s climate change goals,” declares the party that could form the next government. Then in the very same statement on Wednesday, National announced a bonfire of farming regulations not seen since the 1990s. But eliminating these regulations would intensify existing farming practices, which in turn would make farming’s climate impacts worse.

We ended up in conflict with them and that conflict has damaged those impacted by it beyond repair. I know family who have cut each other off over it, I know friendships that will never be healed over this. Whatever the reason to not get vaccinated, you are still New Zealanders, you are still our brothers and sisters, you are still us. But we are going to have to try or else that aggrieved 5% will turn into something more toxic. If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

Last week, the RSA commenced its Poppy Appeal, which is aimed at providing ongoing support to the 60,000 veterans who have served in places such as Bosnia, East Timor, and Afghanistan over the past 30 years. Despite being everyday New Zealanders, these veterans may carry unseen wounds from their deployments, and it is the role of the RSA to assist them and their families. “Without the generous support from the wider New Zealand public, support to our veterans would be limited. We understand there are many demanding circumstances across Aotearoa New Zealand and this appeal comes at heightened times of need. Regardless the RSA poppy appeal has served our veterans for over 101 years and our appreciation is profound.”The RSA Poppy Appeal campaign runs throughout the month of April.
